Online Sessions | Aspire

The online sessions of a mentoring program (regardless of whether there are face to face events in your program) will be where the mentors and mentees spend the most time interacting with each other. Therefore, it is important to ensure there are procedures in place so that the sessions run smoothly:

  1. Encourage schools to schedule sessions after the first period. An online session in the first period does not allow teachers to know which mentee is absent from school as roll call may not be completed before the session starts. It also means that mentees who are late will miss out on the session.
  2. WIFI networks may not be the most reliable connection. Instead, encourage mentors and schools to connect their laptop or computer via an Ethernet cable.
  3. Provide some suggested topics and activities for mentors and mentees to complete. This can help keep the sessions on track and help pairs who might struggle with continuing a conversation.
